This program encompasses a mind-blowing collection of shorts, crazy commercials, and other rarities from the Henson vault. Highlights include: an industrial film for Wilson’s Meat that must be seen to be believed; excerpts from experimental TV programs “The Cube” and “Youth 68”; and “Time Piece,” an 8-minute masterpiece that showcases Henson’s talent for making music out of everyday sounds. This is material you won’t see anywhere else: early TV appearances, commercials, guest spots on the Dick Cavett Show, and more. This program includes the rarely-seen pilot for The Muppet Show: “The Muppets: Sex and Violence.” Emmy Award-nominated producer and puppeteer David Goelz, performer of Sesame Street Muppet roles including the Great Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew, will host the program, providing an inimitable inside view of the Muppet world. Two time Oscar nominee James Ivory joins two time Oscar nominee Gus Van Sant for an onstage conversation about the collaborative relationship between directors and screenwriters.

The event is co-sponsored by the Marylhurst English Literature and Writing Department’s Binford Reading Series.

James Ivory grew up in Klamath Falls, Oregon. Gus Van Sant arrived in Portland as a teenager. Both have received multiple Oscar nominations, and been honored with awards from film festivals around the world.

From cult classics and pop culture to independent and foreign -- the Cultural Forum film coordinators present a wide spectrum of films. Most film showings on campus are free.

Founded in 1992, this year marks the 17th Anniversary of the Cultural Forum's Queer Film Festival. One of the first film festivals of its kind in the NW, the series is provocative and engages the entire community.
